Do I need more lumens?

People ask me all the time, “How much lumens do I need?”
As a general rule, 1000 lumens is more than sufficient for every day use.

There is such a thing as too many lumens? … For instance, if you are reading a book at night, then you probably don’t need any more than 100-150 lumens. The lumens on a full moon is actually very high, but the lux reading is about 1/4 lumen/metre sq

The current record of a hand held flashlight is 53,000 lumens and is able to light up whole parks …

Conclusion: You can have too many lumens on a flashlight …
